About OpenQalam
Mission
OpenQalam is a free, open-source Islamic knowledge search tool built as a sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity). It retrieves and presents authentic hadith, scholarly research, and lecture clips — organized in one answer card so you can explore what the sources say.
Quranic Inspiration
ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
“Who taught by the pen. Taught man what he knew not.” — Quran 96:4-5
The name OpenQalam (“Open Pen”) draws from these verses of the first revelation and from Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen, Chapter 68).
What This Tool is NOT
- Not a fatwa engine — it does not issue religious rulings
- Not a replacement for qualified scholars
- Not an AI that “speaks for Islam” — it only shows what named sources have said
