About OpenQalam

Mission

OpenQalam is a free, open-source Islamic knowledge search tool built as a sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity). It retrieves and presents authentic hadith, scholarly research, and lecture clips — organized in one answer card so you can explore what the sources say.

Quranic Inspiration

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ۝ عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ

“Who taught by the pen. Taught man what he knew not.” — Quran 96:4-5

The name OpenQalam (“Open Pen”) draws from these verses of the first revelation and from Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen, Chapter 68).

What This Tool is NOT

  • Not a fatwa engine — it does not issue religious rulings
  • Not a replacement for qualified scholars
  • Not an AI that “speaks for Islam” — it only shows what named sources have said
