Summary

OpenQalam is a free, open-source tool. We collect minimal data, we don't sell anything, and we don't track you across the web. This policy explains exactly what we collect and why.

What We Collect

Search queries

When you search, we log the query text and basic metadata (timestamp, response time, which AI model was used). This helps us understand what topics people are searching for so we can improve our source coverage.

Preferences

Your font size and Arabic script preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your device — it is never sent to our servers.

Hosting analytics

Our hosting provider (Vercel) collects standard web analytics: page views, country-level location, browser type. This is aggregated data — no individual tracking.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • No user accounts — you never need to sign up or log in
  • No personal information (name, email, IP address linked to queries)
  • No cookies for tracking or advertising
  • No third-party analytics trackers (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel)
  • No fingerprinting or cross-site tracking

Third-Party Services

To provide the search service, your query is processed by:

  • Voyage AI — converts your query into an embedding for semantic search. See their privacy policy.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — generates the structured answer card from retrieved sources. See their privacy policy.
  • Supabase — hosts the hadith database. See their privacy policy.

Your Rights

Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations, you have the right to:

  • Know what data we have about you (we collect very little — see above)
  • Request deletion of any logged queries
  • Opt out of data collection (clear localStorage, use private browsing)

Data Retention

Search query logs are retained for analysis purposes. We may periodically aggregate and anonymize older logs. Since we don't collect personal information with queries, the logs are not tied to individual users.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Since we don't collect email addresses, we cannot notify you directly — please check back periodically.
