Terms of Use

Last updated: April 2026

1. What This Service Is

OpenQalam is a free, open-source Islamic knowledge search tool. It retrieves and presents hadith, scholarly excerpts, and lecture clips from authenticated sources. It is a research and learning aid — nothing more.

2. Not Religious Guidance

OpenQalam does not issue religious rulings (fatwa), legal opinions, or personal guidance. The AI selects and presents sources — it does not interpret them. For religious guidance, consult a qualified scholar.

The “Common Threads” section identifies patterns across cited sources. These are observational summaries, not religious positions. They should not be treated as scholarly consensus or binding opinions.

3. Accuracy and Limitations

We strive for accuracy but cannot guarantee it. Potential sources of error include:

  • Data quality in upstream source repositories
  • AI model errors in source selection or theme identification
  • Auto-generated transcripts that may not reflect the speaker's exact words
  • Gaps in source coverage (we search only the collections listed on our Sources page)

If you find an error, please report it on GitHub.

4. No Warranty

OpenQalam is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information provided will be complete or accurate. Use at your own discretion.

5. Open Source

OpenQalam's source code is available under an open-source license on GitHub. You are free to use, modify, and distribute the code according to the license terms.

The hadith texts displayed come from their respective source collections. OpenQalam does not claim ownership of hadith content. Source attribution is provided with every citation.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use this service to generate content that misrepresents Islamic teachings
  • Scrape or bulk-download data in a way that degrades the service for others
  • Attempt to manipulate or exploit the AI to produce harmful content
  • Present OpenQalam's output as your own scholarly work or religious authority

7. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
